| A Scattering of Lights |
|
Scattering was broadcast as part of Radio 3's The Wire series. Frank, an elderly Irish vagrant sits in London's Victoria Park and waits patiently for the return of the young girl who once gave him the spark of a match. The real voices of homeless women speak of nights of terror in womens' refuges, the places of safety where they hide from violent partners. Lady Elizabeth Early , four months from her 100th birthday, contemplates the wanderings of the Voyager spacecraft as they approach heliopause, the outer boundary of the Solar System. A teenage junkie, Star, watches the lights of London from the roof of a towerblock and traces the wanderings of her lost lover Liam across the city. Scattering is a meditation on homelessness and the importance of a clear view of the stars. The play is a development of A Cup of Water & Evening Star. Broadcast January 5th 2002, BBC Radio 3 |
